Sharing Our Research.. Returning Home
We welcome readers from Orlando and the broader Central Florida area to join for enlightening conversation on April 12.
UPDATE: This event was a big success. We appreciate the great turnout from people around Central Florida and their excitement to help us spread information about racial wealth gaps.
ORIGINAL POST:
Louise grew up in Central Florida, and she often reflects on the area's boundaries between its white and Black communities … as well as how those communities have changed.
Ebony has always enjoyed visiting Central Florida, where her aunt lives and where family around the state sometimes convene.
We are excited to welcome friends, neighbors and all people from this area who are interested in learning more about racial wealth gaps to a special event on the evening of April 12 in downtown Winter Park. We will give a joint presentation about racial wealth gaps and how they’ve changed over time. We will take your questions. And we will also have a special guest to share local information you may find interesting.
More about our project: we have worked on the first-ever book through all of U.S. history on the Black-white wealth gap. It’s a narrative book, highly accessible and engaging for all readers. And it features important data and history that will help you understand the past and present better. You can read more information about our book here: www.15cents.info
We also teach about racial wealth gaps at The Yale School of Management.
Our mission in putting this book out is to:
-Create broad awareness about the state of racial wealth gaps. Every American should know the numbers.
-Bringing communities together to have more conversations about equity.
-Help people view people who are different from them with more empathy.
If you live in the Central Florida area, we sincerely hope you will join us for the April 12 event. Please sign up here, this registration includes a signed copy of our book. If you have already purchased the book or want to come without purchasing it, please sign up here for free registration. We welcome one and all.
